“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler.” ― Henry David Thoreau
Note that he's pointing out the importance of the journey rather than the finality of the goal. He's calling us to keep our passion alive in the pursuit.
Over the last few years as I've embarked on the indie author journey, so many people I've met have made comments about how much they admire my courage for trying my hand at writing. Often, I hear them say, they wish they could follow their dreams. Sometimes they say they hope to do so someday. By far, the thing I hear most is that people worry about failure. They avoid trying new things or pursuing their passion in life because they worry they won't be successful. That always makes me sad. Life is too short to put off your dreams for another time. We can't possibly know we'll achieve our goals if we dare to start a new hobby, write a book, take a class, go for a new job, or some other important thing. If we choose not to try, however, we can be certain our dreams will not be fulfilled.
My challenge for you is to begin your new year by dreaming boldly, daring to believe in yourself, and taking concrete steps toward achieving a goal you've been putting off. It doesn't matter if it's a large or small thing. What's important is that it matters to you and will make you happy. Challenge yourself to enjoy the process. Value the journey itself instead of being intimidated by the potential outcomes. Little by little. Step by step. You can move forward along the path of your choice. Dream it. Believe it. Achieve it.
